Alesis MultiMix 16 USB...input question

I am working thru my Alesis Multimix 16 and laying down tracks...

Good news is the beta drivers I got are working well with windows 7 and my 64 bit system. Cubase is as well.

My question is...when assigning input buses, for the 1st 8 channels, how do I assign them to stereo? for example I am using a mic on channel one. I am using the XLR...

Do i have to assign it as mono if I want it coming out of both left and right? the system will not let me assign the SAME channel (channel 1) to the L&R when in stereo mode. I guess it is the same thing.
