I've got a pair of them.I've had them for about 5or 6 years they will work OK but you have to"learn"them..Thats alot cheaper than I paid for them @#@@7!You should look around and listen to as many diff. speakers as you can before you make any purchases!
Listen to CDs in the style of music that you will be useing them for.....Good luck

Don

thanks for the reponse... what do you mean by "you have to learn them"?
i was also looking into the event 20/20's, but of course they are twice the price..... but i will look and listen around.

That is an amazing price. It is the older version now. They have the monitor one MK2's which are supposed to be very much improved. I tried for 2 1/2 months to get the mk2s back in april but the alesis "re-organization" didn't agree. I finally broke down and got event 20/20's and I'm glad I did.

Good luck!

silly question time

if i order these monitors, they are not powered. how will i be able to use them?
by this i mean, do they get hooked up to my SBLive soundcard and get used for the computer programs also? or, do they just get hooked up to outputs of whatever i am plugging into at the time ( quadraverb/rocktron progap, etc.....)?

You need a poweramp of some type ..."To learn the monitors"
what I meant, you have find out how your mixes translate from them... ie. home stereio, car stereio ect.If you do a search on this BBS you will find all kinds of in depth info...Before you buy, try and learn all you can ...you will be much happier with your purchase.
Good luck......

I tried alot of different ones and chose the monitor ones over the 20/20s, proto-js,spirits,and M5s. So you can be confident in your purchase.

And yes you will need a good power amp to push these, My advise is to go to the local pawn shops and try to find a carver 2 channel amp. You can find one for 150.00 if you can talk a saleman down, and it will be better than any new amps in the under 1000.00 price range.

I also use monitor ones. I just got my new american musical catalog and you can buy them now for $170 for the pair. What a steal. One thing about them, they are ported in the rear. You do need to keep them away from walls about 3 feet or more to let them breath. Other than that, they are the best nearfield monitors for the money you'll ever find.

Yo SpaceMan and South of the BOARDERMAN:]

Methinks you have not heard a pair of Yorkville YSM-1 "non-powered" monitors?

For between 98 & 102 Pezzutos each, they will AMAZE YOUR EARS.

SpaceMan: you can reach Yorkville's site on the Web. Like, Yorkville. Com should get you there to find a dealer near you.
There are better monitors for sure; however, the Alesis 1 monitors are not better. They are just average speakers.

I run my YSM's through a Yamaha 592 integrated amp. Very nice.

PS No. I don't sell the YSM's. I just like quality products that don't empty your wallet.

I got 2

I`ve got a pair of monitor ones and I run them through a matching RA-100 amp, sounds great havn`t had any problems and I`ve had them for about 4 years. But I don`t run them to death either.I just monitor ya know cause that`s what they for.

My ears said:

JBL LSR25P's for smaller monitors
Roland DS-90a's or Yamaha MSP10's for middle range monitors
Mackie HR824's for high-end.
I almost went JBL, but upped my range to Roland DS-90a's. I wanted the digital inputs that only the Roland units seem to have.

I listed over 2 days to the following Biamped speakers:

JBL LSR25p
Roland DS-50a and DS-90a
Yamaha MSP5 and MSP10
Behringer Truth B2031
Mackie HR824's (way outta my price range!)

Sure I havent heard the yorkvilles, They have no local vendors and the big chains wont carry them. Im not going to buy monitors I cant listen to first let alone a/b with other cannidates.

You get them to KC and Ill give them a listen.

P.S. Monster Music here carried the line and didnt sell any so they dropped them.:(

To add my two cents my Monitor One's have been great but they are the only "real monotors" I have had. I originally bought some used Yamaha speakers that I thought were similiar to NS 10's but were closer to those old Galaxy Hot Shot stage monitors. They had no bass and of course my mixes were bass heavy and just plain bad.

They were going for $199 at Mars and I traded in some equipment for them. I have not heard the MK II's but I should have known they were coming when the originals dropped in price so much.

No regrets though; IMHO I would recomend them.

I'm happy with them

I own a set of Monitor one MkII's and I am very happy with them! I bought them together with Alesis very own RA-150 amp and that is a great combo for me.

Friends of mine have them hooked up to a Samson power amp and that sounds alright as well.

I have checked several monitors before deciding on these and haven't regretted the purchase once.

There's better monitors out there, maybe even in the Monitor One price range, but I am glad I bought these. They sound great!

I have heard alot of guys on this bbs badmouth these speakers but none of them own a pair, I have yet to hear bad review from someone who actually owns them.

Those of us who don't own them heard them first and then bought something decent:D

I gotta agree with darrin. I haven't really heard any major bad things about them. It's just the mk2s are $250 a pair (right?) and event 20/20's are $300 a pair. Every time I looked for info on mk2s the general attitude was why not just get 20/20's.

I got a question though. I don't understand how everyone says "I heard these speakers and they sound great"

I could have bought speakers much cheaper than events + a power amp that sound great. The problem is I really don't care how they sound as I listen in my studio as long as they translate well to my car and my home stereo and everything else. Now that I have these monitors my mixes are much more accurate and thats the bottom line.

So gidge did you get the Yorkvilles. Or are you still shopping for real monitors.

I belive Ive seen Posts where you actually say you have them and then somewhere else say that you are going to get them after the the previos post.

Im confused, by the way by doing a web search on studio equipment you are going to find the monitor ones in about 100 times as many pro studios than the yorkvilles.

The reason is that yorkvilles arent near as availible as the alesis product. I cannot comment on the quality of them because I have yet to hear one. All I know is that if it was a really quality product at least one of the many music stores in this city would stock them or even order a pair. But even the one store that said they used to have the line said they couldnt sell them.

Now if you going to critisize a monitor why not go after one that needs a sub to complete the set. Like the proto-j, or the M5. now those arent even adeqate alone. But the monitor ones have deep bass extention and a flat response curve up to 18khz.

show me a post where I said I have Yorkvilles and Ill toss your salad in the middle of Times Square at high noon.....I did say I wanted them and was waiting on the powered version, but this funny looking bluish bear from Canada put a bug in my ear about another pair that I did get......

but they are very good sounding monitors and Id highly recommend them to anyone......

M5's need a subwoofer definitely...I played around with those for a few weeks but I couldnt place the bass on them without the sub.....but they are nice little monitors, nice stereo imaging and pretty flat......

I can critisize a monitor if I dont like it...Ill even say it sucks....but if aperson can get a good mix with it, thats all that matter....if you can monitor with a $50 boom box then thats fine....hell I monitored thru a home stereo and speakers for forever.....If you like yours thats fine....if they work, even better....this isnt personal......

BTW, I have a pair of Tannoy Proto-J's without a sub.....I use my home stereo as a second reference right now as Im learning how to place the bass......

I had a pair of monitor twos that are supposedly better than the ones, and those were the worst pieces of crap that I have ever used.

Sure, for listening to music, they could not be beat ,cos they sounded so sweet, but for mixing, It was a hit and miss thing. more misses than hits. They were not accurate for nothing.Way too forgiving.
