Wait for Alesis to ship the Monitor One MkIIs again....or are these MkIIs (I did not go to the site...)? The MkIIs are smoother sounding than the original Monitor Ones. The mixes have translated nicely on other systems.

ive had my m-1,s for about a year, love em,
if you can get em at $169 ? wow do it!!

The monitor ones that I have are the original award winning ones and I got mine for 140.00 from musicians friend durring a closeout sale.

I got a chance to compare them to 20/20s, m5s, soundcraft absolute zeros, and tannoy proto-js. the monitor ones demonstrated better with AJA playing through them. so I picked them over the others some of the others were significantly cheaper than the alesis the events were 180.00. but lacked the bottom end that I wanted.

I would have to agree with Mike, wait for the Monitor One MkIIs if you want that style of monitor. IMO, the discontinued model of the Monitor Ones are terrible. I have owned a pair, and have A/B them next to several other monitors; I have found them to be too muddy in the mix. I would only own another pair of Monitor Ones is if I had a Yugo that needed a sound system upgrade. If you do not want to wait, the Monitor 2s sound great. They are very close to sounding like the Alesis M1 Active monitors.

FYI, stay away from the Point Sevens too.

You are saying that the actives sound better than the passives, funny I didnt think my impression of these could be influinced by the quality of my referecnce amp. They are the same speakers.

Your reference amp will make a big difference in how your monitors sound:

1. Power output (never under-power monitors)

2. Slew rate (how fast the amp can respond to transients....spikes of frequencies that is, not the homeless ;) )

3. Damping (can be thought of as how fast the amp stops sending power to the speaker after sending it. Higher damping factor gives tighter, thumping low end).

I have not heard the new Monitor One MkIIs, they were not out at the time for me to compare them. The discontinued model of the Monitor ones are the monitors that retailes are trying to unload for a low price, and those are the monitors I used in my comparisons.
