Taking cost/rack clutter factors into consideration, going w/a set of active monitors seems like a good idea.

Anyone have any pos/neg feedback on how the M1 Actives sound? I'm posting here, rather than in the Alesis board, in hopes of unbiased feedback.

The M1 Actives get very good reviews. They are not many nearfield monitors this price with tight bass response but this is one of them. It definitely sounds better than the original monitor ones.

It's my first choice for speakers upgrade at the moment.

My old partner recently bought a set for his dance/techno crap he does. I was amazed by the solid low end it had for such a small speaker. I'm damn near deciding to pick up a pair for myself just as extra reference speakers. All in all they did an excellent job matching amp to speaker.
Two thunmbs up.

I went to Mars Music the other day to listen to the various monitors, mainly the Alesis M1 and the Yamaha NS10. I brought music on a CD that I had mix over the years. I found the M1 to make my music sound good, perhaps too good. I was able to hear more flaws in my mixes with the NS10. I personally felt the NS10 to be a better monitor for mixing. If I can get my mix sounding good on the NS10, I think they will sound great when played on just about anything else.

The Monitor Ones sound very muddy to me, compared to the NS10 and M1.

I heard them at a good studio the other day.
They are worth their price.

After reading all the catalogs and this here BBS, I was all prepared to go buy a pair of M1s. My budget was $500, give or take.

Like others, I brouhgt my own familiar CD and listened to the M1s. Okay, they sounded just fine. Write 'em up.

But wait. Just for fun let's listen to the KRKs for just a little more money. Hmmmmm, sound a lot cleaner.

Okay, now how about the Event PS8s for same price as the KRKs. Sounds even cleaner.

So I bought the Events, spent about $750 plus cables and stands and walked out of the store $1000 poorer.

Did I get double the sound for double the money? probably not, but once you've heard Hendrix then Kravitz doesn't sound so good after all...
