Who's got experience with these, specifically the Alesis (they replaced the MKII... which were real nice). Which do you prefer and why? Which gives the truer sound?

I currently use the Wharfedale's and have the Alesis (MKII) lying around. They are entirely different; MKII are hyped in the bottom & top end and have crap in the middle. The Wharfedale's present a pretty decent picture of your mix and I have had no real issue with getting my mixes to translate. Given the choices you've listed, Wharfdale's hands down.

i have the M1 620's, and enjoy them greatly...however i haven't had the opportunity to compare them side-by-side with other monitors, so i can't really speak to how they sound vs. such-and-such other monitors. i've also only mixed on genelec 1031a's in a treated environment previously, and the room i mix in right now is definitely less-than perfect from an acoustical standpoint.

I have the Wharfedales.... my buddy hast the Alesis ...i prefer mine ...

his are pure Bass .... i listened to mixes i made through his monitors and they sounded completely different...

definetly prefer the wharfedales!

i do have to admit that the 620's sound very bassy...however i've been attributing that to my bass trap-less room more than the monitors themselves...there are switches for both low cut and bass density on the back, but i don't utilize either of them
