This is out in some markets but not available until March 2007 here. Anyone have this yet - any insights? My friend mjhamil is considering getting one for recording/live purposes.......due to its firewire interface and other great features.....

hey man...i been eye ballin this interface too. The only thing i see on musiciansfriend.com, is two people rated it a 9.5, but no comments on it. Anybody have one??

I've been looking for a review or something on this.. nothing out there really. It's a very interesting peice at a smokin' price. I think I'm going to get it just because it's cheap, and I think it will definately be worth the money. I'm running multiple firepods right now, but for my live setup I do need multiple outs and really would like to have it not rack mounted. I've been looking for a setup like this for awhile.

mjhamil has ordered it and we will begin using it once it arrives. I'll try and post a critique here when we've had a chance to work with it.....

I got it on order, for $299.00 @ GC actually is in layaway, I had to returned a mixer case, and instead of getting my money back I placed it on layaway, I'll be getting it in about 2 weeks.

mjhamil received his today. Won't be able to really check it out for a couple weeks or more due to moving....Will let you know when it's up and running and how it does asap.....

Ive Got One

I picked up the iO|26 on friday at Guitar Center. I am using it with Logic Express and Sonar with no hiccups. The pre'ss are actually really clean and its definatly an upgrade from my MAUDIO Delta 66. 8 Neutrik Pre's for 399...Great Deal! The only problem i had was if you are using a Mac-intel and are using bootcamp for Sonar you have to download a fix from microsoft so it will recognize any external sound cards. If you dont youll be stuck with the SigmaTel Driver even if the Interface is installed correctly.

Hope this helps

Great! I'm getting mine this weekend....!

Hey FYI for a few more clams and a little more patience you can get the latest from Alesis. Basically an I/O 26 with a control surface built in for a price of around 799.00 USD. This will blow both the project mix and the Tascam 1884 out of the water if it works. It might be several months before they release it because it would likely hurt 26 I/O sales for one thing. Alesis took forever to release the 26 I/O ,it was probably a year from the time they announced the product that it was on shelves and there might be some growing pains in the early releases but Alesis are good about support.

links?

for me the iO/26 fit my needs and my budget, I got it today

You are right there are only two mike pres on the Mastercontrol. This is the unit I was thinking about. So it isn't identical to the I/O26 input wise but its pretty much all there. I would guess it depends on what you want to do. You can always use the lightpipe to get eight more inputs with something like Behringers eight XLR to lightpipe.
The competition to the mastercontrol is much more expensive. Control surfaces are all the rage if you work in your DAW software a lot. If you try to buy a seperate control surface a Mackie control will set you back a lot of money. Behringer make a decent one for less but it also does less.
If you have a pretty good analog mixer already you can just feed those XLR pres into the line inputs on the mastercontrol if you need more than two at a time. I usually track one vocal at a time. I guess for the price they had to cut a few corners.

A complete unit (interface and control surface) would be a good idea. If the features of the Master Control and IO26 were combined, that would be great. Plenty of preamps, inserts, 2 headphone outs, and a good control surface.

just fyi, neutrik aren't mic pres, they're just the 5 cent connector.

Yep! That will a heck of an interface! Maybe that's next!!

I posted this on another thread but i think it will help...

I own the IO26 and I just want to see what other people are saying about it. I personally love it. When I first got it, the headphone out was not separate from the main volume control so I had to get the control matrix from Samson so that I could control the volume in the control room without interfering with the person recording. That cost me a hundred extra dollars plus the cable costs. Only thing I can say is it was worth it only for the talkback mic and now that I have 2 pairs of monitors, A/B Switching plus I can shut my sub off using it. Anyways, since I got it they put out a new firmware/software upgrade that makes the volume control seperate. I just ordered the smpro pre 8 mkii and it will be here on the 21st. Overall I am very happy with the quality of the interface. Great features and upgrade possibilities. I like the phono in plus two adat lightpipe inputs to add another 16 channels of recording. It also has SPDIF in that works great for recording keyboards with digital out. Everything is balanced the the preamps are not bad at all. I just wish it had a phase reverse switch on the top and 10db pad (or at least a phase reverse for monitoring when I mic underneath a snare drum). Great features, small package, 8-ins, 8-outs, easily expandable, and an outstanding price. BTW I am a Cubase user but I have not heard of anybody having problems with other programs.

Haven't had it for that long (since December I believe?) but so far I give it a BIG thumbs up. :D
