We have the Alesis Firewire 16 @ church, and have not be able to record because I don't have a PCMCIA Firewire card for the church's laptop.

I'm getting one very soon.

But for my studio I'm getting the i/O 26, as a matter of fact I already got it on layaway, I need $227.00 te get it out so it'll be a couple of weeks, I used to have the EMU 1820M, will see how this one works out

alesis

does it record 8 simultaneaus seperate tracks to your DAW, or does it record only 8 mixed to stereo?

I does seperate tracks. I'm having fun with mine so far. Gonna mic the drums tonight and see how that goes.

I have the MMix 16 firewire and it works well. Only real draw backs are 48 as the highest sample rate and I wish it had inserts for at least the first 8 channels. Other than that, I cant complain. I have recorded and am still working on my bands ep. So far, it sounds great.

Sounds pretty good! What kind of computer are you hooked up to. Are you using the CUBASE that came with the I/O26? How do you like that recording software? On another board they mentioned many problems with the Mac, but few with a PC.

All the info is on that page but will paste below. I am using garageband 3. All the levels are a little low, but I'm still getting used to it. I'm using a imac g5 2.16 duo. I haven't had any of the problems people have been talking about. Probably because I downloaded the update stuff from the site. I'm having a good time with it so far!

2 - Overheads Naiant MSH-1

Toms - Superlux ECO - H6a

AT25 snare, Samson Q3 floor tom, ATM25 on kick drum.

Alesis io into Garage band. Dry.

What are your buffer/latency settings?

I'm using Garageband 3, so there are really only 2 settings, of which I am using the lower (arbitrarily). I should have figured that out sooner, thanks for the tip! I'll give the higher buffer a shot tonight. We're doing a version of Billy Joel's Pressure for a comedy skit. Fun times.

These things look interesting. Im thinking of purchasing one of these bad boys. I've been reading about them a bit and of course theres a lot of driver problems but hopefully it would work well with my set up. With a price around 400 ... if it works the way they say it should ... it should be a pretty good bang.
