AKG Perception 100 user review

This is from a user review on Future Producers.com:

Features (8 / 10)
It is basically just the mic, no pad switches or anything. It looks nice though.

Sound Quality ( 9 / 10)
Sounds great. Really makes my mixes come alive. This is the first condensor I have actually used in my studio, and it really makes everything I record with it sound brighter and clearer. For the price, it is great.

Usability (10 / 10)
Its a micrphone! Plug her in and go!

Quality / Durability( 8 / 10)
It has a pretty sturdy case. Doesen't feel too cheap. I have dropped it a few times, but nothing more than scrathes and a dent in the windscreen have happened. Still works as well as the day I bought it. And you don't have to worry about breaking it because its only 120 bucks. I'm still carefull with it, of course.

Love Factor (9 / 10)
If it were stolen, I would probably buy another one. It has done so much good for my drums and vocals, I would hate to see it gone! I love it, and I love the price.

I've heard nothing but good things about these mics. Looks like to me, for the price, they'd be hard to beat. I'd like to hear one in action!

good to hear so i made a good choice...... I brought the perception and it's goin into a M-audio audiobuddy preamp which i have also heard good things about........ my last missing link is a new soundcard and ill be set

more?

i'd still like more replies to this topic

I asked about the AKG Perception 100 and 200 last fall and got NO replies. I was glad to see this thread and glad you got some response.

I would like to see some other opinions about them too. I'd like to know how they stack up against other mics at this price point. (SP B1, MXL V67 etc.)

So far sounds like a winner. huh?

yea it do to me lol..... I saw ur post 2 and saw it got no replies thats why i made this one

I really want to hear these mics. I don't have any hyped up expectations. Over the years, AKG has built some gems and some klunkers. So here's the question? Are they built in China or Austria? At that price, they almost have to have Chinese capsules.-Richie

I've not recorded with one, but I played a gig once where the sound guy mic'd up my acoustic guitar with one. Best "live" sound I ever remember having. Since then, I've been considering getting one to use for live sound, regardless of what it sounds like in the studio.

p.s. Richard I just checked the back of the mic and its made in China............

Last night I picked up a Perception 200. I've tried it with my voice and I like it. I want to try it on acoustic guitar as well. I will say that it is not a flat mic. It has a presence boost that may not be good for some situations. I knew that from the start, so it wasn't a shock. I am not saying that it's an all purpose mic, but it's another option if you are looking for something with that type of flavor.

I have to admit that I can't compare it to the other competing mics in this class and price range (the SPb1 and v67g come to mind). Also, I can't compare it to any high end stuff, but--for my voice-- it's better than my Akg C3000. I'm only saying that if you want a cheap chinese mic with a little sizzle in the presence area, you might like this one. At $160 on sale (GC) it is slightly more than some of the competitiors, but it comes with a low cutoff and a -10db switch.
