Hi all.

I am in need of some cans for recording two other singers, and myself. Capitol is very limited, right now, and I happened to see a 3-pack of AKG-K44's (in BSW's catalog) for $49. Yes, they are cheap (I know), but there have been times when some cheaper items have yielded pretty good results. At any rate, has any one here had experience with the above mentioned cans?

Do a search on AKG K44's at Musicians Friend; there are 61 reviews from customers there. A good number of people who bought them really like them, but there were a lot of complaints about distortion and reliability.

The Sennheiser HD201's are in the same price range, and might hold up better in a studio setting. The earpieces tend to be slightly uncomfortable after a while and can make your ears sweat, but they sound pretty decent. Not sure how long they'd last in a real studio, but so far, they're holding up here for light use. The double cord (one from each earpiece is a pain in the ass).

There's a four page story about the new Widespread Panic album, recorded at Compass Point with Terry Manning:

All the headphones used on that album (shown on pages 2 and 3) were MoreMe's.

Thanks Harvey,

Maybe I will pass on those AKG's. Recently, I have been hearing a lot about the "MoreMes", and will check into their cost factor.

Nothing to check; the standard MoreMe's are 20 bucks, the Deluxe are $30. You can contact Front End Audio, or Mercenary Audio. They both sell the MoreMe's and have a good supply in stock. Or you can order them at: http://moreme.info

those akg 44's are open back and don't have good isolation. if isolation is a factor for you, get something else. i owned a pair of those at one point. they're nothing great but i suppose you get what you pay for. the frequency response is'nt real good either (lacking in deep lo's/ upper hi's) but they sound decent overall. i'd probably go for the moreme's or maybe the senn 201's.
