I just found what could be a potentially amazing deal on a stereo pair of AKG C414 XL-IIs. They will not be coming with the shock mounts, but do have the normal clips. I dont think the shock mounts are all that necessary since the XL II and XLS model have the capsule mounted with elastic just like a shock mount. These Mics cost $1000 per mic, and I have a chance to two of them at that price.
Now, I've read about the differences between the XL II and the XLS, and read a review where the two were compared. It seems that both are great mics for vocals, acoustic instruments, and room micing. Havent heard a whole lot about close micing amps or on drums?
If I cannot get this pair there are auctions on eBay for new ones with all of the shock mounts etc for a price that I may be able to do too. So I'd like to know which of the two are better? From personal experiences or specs etc. But this pair is looking really good at this price.
