Anyone out there recording really heavy music with this mic. What are your results. And are there any metal people on this board, in the Pantera, Mudvayne, In Flames style.

An akg c3000 on anything other than a doorstop or highly-critical recordings of dog farts is highly unadvisable.

Come on, chessrock, I've seen a c3000B used very sucessfully for steel strung, Irish violin, in both live and studio settings. I have to go with the rock man and say *not* for heavy metal. I can't see this mic being the thing for a screamer. Just try the singer on a clean LD like C1 and a tube mic like Solid Tube, NTK,TB1,T3, etc., and a good dynamic (SM-7, say) He (she?) will sound good on on one of them, assuming they sound any good to begin with.
My best bet is the dynamic. At a current $300 or so, the dynamic is also cost effective, and it will be more like the stage mic the singer's probably used to. I don't own SM-7, but I have auditioned it and it's on "the list". Knock yourself out.-Richie

Just wanted to point out the AKG 3000 was replaced by the
improved version of the C3000B, and the C3000B is far superior.
A local studio owner who hates the 3000 bought my C3000B,
and has told me he really likes it on female vocals particularly.
The Studio Projects C1 is on a listening CD you can get for free
at www.studioprojectsusa.com if you make an e-mail request.
One of the songs is a "rocker" where the microphone works
excellently for the male vocalist who sang it.
A C1 and a Shure SM57, assuming you have a good mic pre for the '57, and a pop screen for both microphones would probably
cover the ground you need on most hard rock vocalists IMHO.

About 98% of what we do here is heavy metal (a lot of Pantara-type bands), and we've never found a use for the AKG C3000 in that genre of music.

I just had a screamer in here the other day, and the sm7 was a perfect match.
I was only half-kidding about the c3000. I've gotten really good accoustic guitar recordings with them. Like really good. I've had a few clients hand me some vocals they did with these things, and yeeesh. A screamer would be the last thing I'd put in front of it.

chess rock you scared me dude lol i cut an intire album with a c 3000 and a 1000s for acoustics and it worked well

It can be great. We just sent Pimpadelic's album off to Howie Weinberg to be mastered (he just finished the Rolling Stones' new album), and he called my son Alex to say how good he thought the production was. They're probably the best group we've had out here.
