Can you tell me which one would be a better sounding mic in your opinion? I have heard wonderful things about the AKG but have been recommended the MXL by a few people. Can some one with experience on these two mics give me an honest opinion?? I want something to record vocals mainly rapping and singing. TIA

I own a V67G and have used the AKG in a local studio. Neither is a 'better sounding mic' per se, it really dpends on the source but I'd try the MXL first for the use you've described. Large diaphragm mics are often (but not always) better suited to recording vocals than small diaphragm condensors. Like I said it will depend on the voice of the individual and the sound you're going for at that time.

The MXL is dark and coloured, the AKG is a little brighter.

My voice has always been a problem. It doesn't like to work with large diaphram mics. It does work well with the C2000B however. Where I use the C2000B as my main vocal mic, my wifes voice is different, it sounds good on most anything.

It also takes some time to get used to listening to your own voice too. That may cloud your selection in the beginning until you settle on a mic you like. It comes down to being a trial and error process of trying anything you can get you hands on rather than one of LDC against SDCs.
