Are they really THAT good? Just saw one go for $6300 on ebay. WOW!
 
I've "only" tried the Telefunken USA repro of the C12 and it was pretty awesome.

However...

Their versions of the Telefunken Elam 251 (my fave) and the U47 were
"awesomer" on me. :)

I actually like the Manley Reference Gold more than Telefunken USA C12 on
a very limited impression (in cardiod).

I had a chance to use one for some vocals on the last project my ex-band did. It was a great match to our Lead Guitar player. He has kind of a harsh voice, and it smoothed it right out. Like buttah.
 
$6,300 is pretty inexpensive for a C-12 in good shape... I sold mine a few years ago for $8,500 each, but they were exceptionally good examples of the piece.

To answer your question... yes, they're that good... however, there are microphones that are being built now that are equally as good. They're not built in the PRC, they're not sold at your local Banjo Mart... but there are several mics that are as good, and in some applications even better.
