Could someone please recommend an alternative mic thats cheaper than the AKG 112 that basically does the same job?
Unfortunetley the AKG 112 is a bit out of my price range. Its for a bass drum.
THanks.

Audio-Technica ATM25: $140
Or Pro25: $70.
Red5 Audio RVD1: £60

Everything else is either the same price, only slightly cheaper, or way more expensive than a D112.

Has anyone seen the new DUAL ELEMENT kick mic from Audio Technica?
Stupid cool. I got a tour of the plant last winter, and thats when I first saw it. Dynamic AND condenser elements in ONE mic with a breakout cable so you can mix/eq either the way you want....
I think its about $400, though.
Just thought you should know

Yeah, I've seen that thing.
Looks freakin' awesome. It is quite expensive though, but I'm sure it's well worth it!

There is really no alternative to the D112, but there are a lot of other good equal mics. Each mic has it'e own distinct character, and if you happen to like how the D112 sounds, thet's the one you should have. (I've seen them go used for as little as $110.00 on eBay)
I personally prefer the ATM25 which is what I use, but it has a different character.
Be prepared to spend between $120 - $200 for a good kick mic. That's what they cost. There will be others that will advise you that the new dual element AT or the Sennheisser 421 or 441, or the Electro-voice RE 20 is the best kick mic, but these are all much more expensive and what you're getting from them is more versatility.
For its price, the AT Pro 25 is a good kick mic, but it doesn't sound like a D112, it sounds more like a shallower weaker signal version of its big brother the ATM25.
