Hi...

Ive been trying to connect my mic to my laptop. I was having issues connecting through my mixer, so I bought a M-Audio Fast Track USB Audio Interface. (I don't have a lot of money so this was all I could afford.)

Question is, do I need a pre amp or something if I am using, lets say a Shure SM48 mic? Or this one... I just bought one...

I keep hearing about this phantom power. - it's for condenser mics, correct?

Thanks for any help!!!

Hey Air.

People here are glad to help out, but this is user manual stuff man! :D

As long as you have a USB cable and an XLR cable, it sounds like you've got the right gear.
You don't need another preamp; There is one built into your maudio.

An sm48 or that sennheiser will not require phantom power, but it won't harm the mic or anything.
For future reference, good practice is to have phantom power off when plugging/unplugging.

Thanks so much! I just ordered the stuff on eBay and was making sure I didn't need anything else.

TY!!!!!!!!!
