hi everybody:
i´m looking and wondering a lot about to get a good sound.
to record guitar and basses at home with cubase and a low budget.
what do you think?
aguilar DB900 throuth ap2496 vs. M-audio ProjectMix I/O without aguilar pre. (not budget).
other option are welcome.

thanks.

That aguilar COULD give you killer bass sound (if you know how to use it), but no guitar is gonna sound good. You simply need to mic an amp for a decent guitar sound.

yea. or a line6 something is enought to take a nice guitar, but why U say (if you know how to use it) about the aguilar? there´s some secret?

Well, I'm a bassplayer, and I concider Aguilar to be a very brand that makes very high quality stuff, both constructionwise aswell as sonically. That, and bassguitar just lends itself well to be recorded with a DI box (low frequency response is excellent, amongst other things), while guitar is highly colored by the amplifier and speaker, which you are taking out of the equation by using just a DI box.

Look at it like this:
A guitar is water. If it's a good guitar, it's clean, fresh water. Still, it's just water. It needs lemon extract, sugar, all kinds of flavourings to make a decent lemonade.

A bass is scotch. If it's a good bass, it's a good scotch. All you can really do to make a scotch better, is serve it in a good glass, with some ice.

I use an Aguilar DB924 and I love it, no complaints. I've also used it with a 12 string elec/acoustic (not bass) and it was very nice as well.

fender american dlx precision 5 (3EQ), American DLX tele, standar tele( aupgrade circuits and mics), schecter strato 70´s (tom anderson build), variax.
DAWN: intel 3.06, 1gh, 120HD, M-Audio AP2496. stop...from here You tell me.
Cubase.
i´m looking for a just one channel good quality. to take my guitar.

Creamyapples: your rout?

thanks.

As I said, guitar and bass are 2 very different things. Name us your budget first.

o, U R rigth.
budget 800.
just focus on the bass sound.

for recording bass, a Standard American Fender Jazz Bass, Aguilar DB924, to my board, then onto the recorder. It's a sound that I am very pleased with, though as we all know, opinions are a dime a dozen on here.
