Aging of dynamic mics?

I have a pair of Beyer dynamic mics, which were decent quality when I bought them about 20 years ago. I'm restarting to record after a 15-year gap - but am still a novice. I now put the mics through a preamp (Audio Buddy), so as to record to the Archos Gmini 220. There is noticeable noise if the preamp gain is turned up more than halfway.

Would you expect the mic to get noisier with age over 20 years? Or is it that some noise is inevitable with non-pro-quality equipment, and I should just remove it with software? (Goldwave in my case)

Dynamic mics should not get noisier as they are completely passive in design. I have a pair of Beyer Dynamics that are about 20 years old as well. I have no problems with them and they take high SPL really really well.
