Wtf is a PRS
Im looking at getting a few mics that can be used as a multi tasker. Ideally Vocals and Acoustic Guitars. I know and have used the industry standard SM57 many a time and have never been unhappy.

But im curious if anyone can give me some feed back Marshall MXL V57M?

Some one mentioned to me that they use this mic for vox, guits, bass/guitar amps, drum overheads and kick drums and the whole works?

"works well with protools" he added ... ??? Ha.

I was leary of the overheads and kick comment but thought id get some second opinions. I understand theres no rules to recording but ... im still Leary.

So please i welcome some input

If you're looking for a versatile, inexpensive condenser mic, I would suggest the CAD M179. I know it's more expensive than the v57m, but you will not be disappointed. If the budget is that tight, Musician's Friend is selling the CAD M177, which is the cardioid-only version of the M179, $69.99.

Very versatile, cheap mike: Electrovoice Cobalt CO4

It is like a much clearer and more accurate version of the SM57. They are only about $50. After I discovered them I bought about half a dozen :D

My experience with the MXL V57M has shown it to be very hyped in the high and low ends. Through the same signal chain it sounds much bigger in the entire spectrum than any of my other mics...MK319, MK2500, MXL V67M, AT4033, SP-C3, AKG414.

He thanks guys. Ill start looking around for prices on some.

I have heard of the CO4's and wouldn't mind trying them . the price right ... mind you i'm in Canada so id prolly be looking at 60 to 70 bucks a pop.

Thanks none the less.

This would be my experience as well. It has it's niches. It can be good on the right vocalist, and does pretty good on finger-picked acoustic guitar. But I would not pick it as my go to all arounder.
