Sure, there's nothing better than the real thing..
Well, if you had been following the conversation thus far you would be concluding that this is probably better than the original. Maybe try to read a little less into what is not there and you could actually get the entire meanings of sentences as they are actually written.

if you have been following the conversation you may also have come to one of two conclusions:

1. he is really a bad ass message board poster who is completely bad ass and doesn't take crap from anyone on line.

2. that this guy must feel so beaten down by life that he has to keep coming back to a message board and vent his frustrations on people he'll never actually have to confront-- to the point where he has been banned from here at least once, but needs to keep coming back.

i am willing to acknowledge that either might be true given that i haven't had much experience with him. given that his current high positive rep score and his own reports of having received lots negative rep in the past, obviously the rest of the membership of this board is split in their opinions.

Glad you got it all figured out.

ah, but i haven't-- life is a constant learning experience. :)
what i believe here is of very little consequence anyway.

back on topic though, i bet either any of the ribbons mentioned would be great-- the aea's higher gain would be a great benefit, but the classics are classics for a reason. the potential problem would obviously be wear on/slack in the ribbon element itself.

it looks like michael joly has updated his mods to the cheap chinese ribbons and now replaces the ribbon element itself, which sounds interesting. i love his work on my mk-219 pe :)

hmnnn for the 3rd time now I have gotten to use the 'ignore' function here.

Works wonders, dontcha' know.

And more on topic, I wish I could afford this great microphone, sounds like a blast. I'll just pretend I have one when I use my just-arrived Apex 205 :p

I am of the belief that those original designs in themselves had a certain quality, that unless perfectly replicated, will stand by themselves. New mics that emulate old designs may add more to them in some way (be it increased frequency response, etc), but I wouldn't call them "Better" - you are simply getting a different, albeit very good, sound.

I've actually been following this thread from the beginning - I was the first to respond, and as such, have been pluggin along with all the comments.
