Here we go...
I want to start computer recording. I need some advice. Here is what I want to do....
Be able to record 2 audio sources at once (i.e. guitar & bass).
be able to import or otherwise create drum tracks (cant manage a set)
be able to burn to CD...
to be able to use a midi keyboard controller to generate sounds to also be recorded.
8-tracks would be sufficient.
I am basically using the machine to record my self making music....

I have a computer now (A Gateway) that I'm ready to gut and fill with only what I'll need...Does anyone have any recommendations for what I'll need computer wise? I work at a music reatil store with a pro audio dept so all the stuff is there...at cost which is a plus. I'll probably get some Beta 58's for mics and possibily a mixer/pre amp. What motherboard is good for my situation? program? (I am familiar w.basic recording (i.e., n-tracks, but pro tools os too much)....
drum machines?????
anyone in my siituation?
thanks in advance...
ps
im sure this has been asked and answered, so a link to the thread would be ok as well...

prioritize is the key

You need to figure out what is important enough to get with your budget and what is not.

1st - you need a good sound card. If you look around this site you'll find that Delta 44's and 66's are popular picks. They have very low latency and are probably the best bang for your buck.

2nd - you'll want good mics. You mentioned some 58's. Again popular with the folks around here and good picks for general applications.

3rd - do you have enough hard drive space? Recording on computer is done in waves and it eats hard drives for breakfast. You want alot.

4th - processor speed (probably need above 1GHz)

5th - ram

I'd prioritize and figure what you can do.
