You've got to be tough
To live on this planet
You've got to be strong
To live side by side with the people who man it
And still get along;
They won't understand if you're gentle and kind:
They'll leave you alone if you're crippled or blind:
If you don't conform, man, they'll leave you behind! -
You've got to be tough.
You've got to be "in",
Be one of the crowd -
You've got to be smart.
Use your wits, and remember - it isn't allowed
To think with your heart:
Keep your eye on the next man, and follow the rule;
You've got to be hard, and at times even cruel -
If you try to be noble, they'll call you a fool!
You've got to be "right".
I wish I could change
The things that I've said,
I wish they weren't so;
I wish I could say, be a saint and have done
With those who'd say 'no'."
But if you've got the courage to follow your star,
And bear every buffet, and hide every scar,
Why, you'll make a difference wherever you are!
The world might just change. . .

Ido, is this a sequel to the Not Only When It's Christmas Time song?
It's certainly a world weary take on things but also a lesson to be learned in differing degrees but each of us.
I can't read a melody into it but have faith that you have a goodun because you always do.
Maybe, after a bit of an outro solo you could use a rejoiner to lift the mood - something like "...& neither a borrower nor a lender be". I'm continually amazed at how sage/cynical/hypocritical Shakespear could be.

I like it but it disturbs me. May be good writing should do just that. By my nature I don't like cynicism but it has turned out to be my world view. You've captured that pretty well but in a positive way.

Im not an expert or anything but I really like the lyrics. Good job man! Wish I could write lyrics like that.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'm not sure yet what direction to go. (although my abilities are limited as to genre variety so it's more like guitar rock, guitar pop or guitar ballad :D.
