Yes, "toot" is perhaps not quite the word for how most of us feel about the AKG C1000. As there may be church types reading this, I'll refrain from using the words commonly used to describe them hereabouts.
I will say that prior to the current prosumer market boom, they were by far the most affordable small diaphram condensor. That has since changed and they, like the C3000 and the NT1, have been surpassed in both price and quality.
To take what littledog and chessrock are saying a step further, if you're just going to do what the guys in the magazine told you, it's no use wasting time here. But don't fool yourself into thinking that your sources have no conflict of interest. Heck, save yourself the bother and go ask the sales weasel at the guitar mart what mic he thinks you should use, once he gets off the phone with his stripper girlfriend.
