Problem 1-
Suppose I have a video running on youtube and I'm using my headphones to listen to it.
I turn on Audition.
And suddenly the audio stops coming through headphones. Instead it comes out through the external speakers.

Problem 2 -
I have an instrumental track over which I want to record vocals. But when I record, Audition records both the instrumental and my vocals in one track. I use headphones, so there is no question of the mic picking up the instrumental.

I really need help!

Problem 1 sounds like you have the wrong output selected on your sound device within Adobe Audition (I am not familiar with the software though)

Problem 2 sounds like you have the track armed to record stereo mix not the microphone.

How do change all these things. I looked over the options and everything but I couldn't find anything.

For the first problem, you need to go to the Edit/Audio Hardware Setup menu and select to default output to be whatever you need it to be. Depending on your rig, you may need to play with the driver and sound card settings too.

Curing the second bit will depend a bit on what version of Windows you have. However, whichever the case, this setting is in Windows, not Audition, and you have to select Line In or Mic In rather than "Wave Out", "Stereo Mix" or "What U Here". (I list all the names because the wrong setting varies with your OS and sound card version. Once you've changed this in Windows, you may also need to go back and match the change in the Audition/Edit/Audio Hardware Setup menu.

Problem 1 sounds like youn are using ASIO drivers and have it set not to release the audio when another program starts.. You can fix this in the ASIO control panel..
Problem 2 Bobbsy fixed for you.. Never use What U Hear.. in multitrack.. it may be called other things in differnt programs.. but it is an easy fix..

Problem 2 is gone. I don't how it went or may be it was never there. So now it's just 1.

And yes! I just downloaded the ASIO driver and ever since I'm having the problem. The good thing with them is that latency is gone.
I use Windows 7.
And I checked the setting "Release ASIO Driver In Background"....that didn't solve the problem.

Audition keeps plays through headphones but anything outside Audition play through the external speakers.
