Adobe Audition + Delta 1010 = stuttering and glitches

Reaper's cheaper.

But you got the stuttering to stop on AA 2.0 with ASIO drivers? Is that right?

See, two related issues with my use of Cool Edit 2.1 or AA 1.5 are:

1 WDM drivers mean that when I route signals through external devices when I'm overdubbing, there's a lag which Cool Edit/AA attempts to correct with a software adjustment, but that doesn't work if...

2 The session is really big. And not only that, if the session is really big and I've got a lot of EQs and compressors and the occasional effect on twenty or twenty-five tracks, then it makes my machine work so hard that I shut off the level meter cuz I notice a difference in performance. I get half a minute of playback before the stuttering starts.

So, you beat that combination of dumb drivers and overweight math by using ASIO drivers with 2.0?

I dunno.

I always assumed that the ASIO drivers are better than the WDM drivers, but with ASIO drivers for my Delta410 in AA2.0, I still get the glitchy pops after a minute or two with lots of files in use in the multitrack...

Oh that's just great. I have a session tonight with a bunch of friends so I'll have time to really test AA 2.0 with my 1010. I did a short session last Tuesday, we tried doing the drum tracks that we failed to capture last Saturday, and it worked great actually. But then when I went for a punch in I noticed something strange, the track history was gone and there is no longer an option to merge the new punch with the main track. This is a completely stupid regression in the software. Now you have to literally bounce the new punch and original track to a new track, just to merge. In AA 1.5 it was one friggin click of the mouse. Whoever on the design team over there that decided this was a good thing is a moron. Also punch ins now lay on top of the old track instead of cutting out a new section within the track, which can be confusing because sometimes the old tracks come forward and you can't find your old punch track because it's hidden behind the others. Then if you have 10 punch in takes, you have to sift through them all to find the one that you wanted. It's a pain. On a good note though AA 2.0 now has an input level meter for each and every track instead of just Left and Right. Plus the track imputs npw show up as Mono inputs instead of L and R of a stereo track.

I'll let you gyus know if I still have glitch problems after a whole nighjt of recording. What should I use if I dump AA 2? Cubase?

Have you ever started your session in AA1,5 and then at some point continued to work with it in AA 2,0?

Update

Sorry for not clearing thing sup on this thread. I totally forgot about it. The thing that solved my problem was moving to AA 2.0 and using ASIO drivers. Totally corrected the situation. The only problems now are related to freezing effects, which has all sorts of glitches.

AS far as opening 1.5 sessions in 2.0, that's a pain in the ass. The software forces you to save a new version and then you lose half your settings. Almost all the effects disappear. Anyhow, I'm experimenting with AA 3.0 now and it seems pretty good. They resorted the effects and now auto crossfades tracks when you overlap which is awesome.

Ah, checking in after a couple of years eh? Me too, almost.

Yeah, 3.0's better than 2.0. 2 out of 3 people agree. :)

Didn't the Delta come with ASIO drivers?

Audition 1.5 used WDM drivers. So that's what the Delta used. The upgrade to 2.0 came with Asio and my issues went away. I can't say for sure that's what it was, but my problems certainly wen away.
