Adding to the debt... Preamps.

The usual preamp thread.

This will be my first 'real' preamp.

I'm looking into the 'up to $1300ish' area.

I'm thinking either a two channel Sebetron, A Designs MP-2, Vintech 1272 or something similar (and by similar I am not implying that these units sound the same, but I mean similar price range and quality).

The only other pres I have are Soundcraft M12 pres. These will be primarily snare and kick pres, but since they will be my 'high end' pres pretty much everything will be going through them until I pick up some more (someday I will have you, great river and phoenix).



Why does the credit card company always have to temp you with 'Limit, $6500?'

Oh yeah, and with this pre will probably be a Soundelux u195.

I also own all of those great budget mics like MXL 603s and v67g, along with the usual sm57s and such.

if you really want to spend

check out what some pro recording engineers say about the dacs
pre amp for mics. very very expensive.
 
Go to www.atlasproaudio.com Look at the Old School Audio preamps.Read up on them they have different flavors..API compatable good stuff with room to grow.2 pres and lunchbox/power supply for about 1300.00...Then you can add a pre or EQ and even compression here and there after your original investment..Good stuff

I'd actually really like to go that route with the 11 space thing, but for now it's a little much. It looks like the pres are about $450 apiece, and the small space thing is $500, so that's about $1400 total.

Damn you money.

Small is 8 spaces...Take a little more time..Save one more 100.00 and you are there..If you gotta track a drum kit in the future you will be glad you did{IMO}:) Good luck

I dont know if you've read it, but when home-recordists buy "real " pres their "dicks" shrink

Bah, so now I'm thinking about this. It's not money that I need to save up or anything. It's a credit card. Haha. So I have as much as I want... for a price. MWAHAHAHAHA.

But really. Maybe I'll just get the OSA stuff. Then later down the road I can get some API stuff and stick it in, and then if I need more later I can sell the 8 space one and get the 11 space one.

But which one? MP1-A or MP1-C? Hmm.

I actually haven't heard a lot about the OSA stuff, so that's why I wasn't going to go there.

Here's my unsolicited review:

A = "clean" (same camp as Hardy, Great River MP-2MH, etc)
C = "API-ish" crunchy/forward mids, most 'character'
L = 'wider' than C, more lows, more highs, even clearer low mids.

Call Nathan or go to his website..Hes very helpful also a good guy to deal with...I have ordered the C's myself ..Tell him what you are looking for as far as "tonality" and application..The cool thing about this approch is if you need more channels its 450.00 a apeice instead of a maybe 800.00 to a 1000.00 ..Pretty versitile..good luck
