Hey everyone, I'm sure something like this has already been posted but i cant find anything because I'm not too sure whats out there.

Basically what I want to know is what are my options as far as ADAT interfaces go to hook my DDX3216 to the PC. The ADT1616 has two I/O so id like something that would utilize those. Is there anything out there that can do that without being overkill? The more the better.

I'd don't know if you guys need any more info about what I'm using so if there is, go ahead and ask.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Mike

check out the RME Digi 9652. You can get em on ebay for 200-250, and they have 3 adat i/o. they're cheaper since the hdsp series came out, and the only improvement they really have is a software mixer.

Otherwise, you can look at the motu 2408 MKII or MKIII...for 3 adat I/O along with 8 analog I/O in a breakout box...also a very solid unit, and the MKII's can be had for a good deal. In fact I just bought one on ebay for $400.

How do you like that mixer btw?

hey Trogdor,

The mixer is great, I just cant wait to get everything going with the soundcard so i can start doing some projects. The RME Digi 9652 looks like the right thing for me.... from what I can tell they are on ebay for about $300 there was one for around $200 but its over now... if they stay at this price would I be better off getting the motu for the extra $100? for that price the ability to expand doesnt sound too bad... are there any more options as far as cards go? I really want to know whats out there before I go ahead and buy. The $200 range would be really good for me (I'm a student with expensive hobbies :()

Thanks again for all your help

Well, I'm also a student with expensive hobbies so I feel your pain! As a matter of fact, I just sold my Delta 1010 and was faced with the decision of the RME or a MOTU 2408 MKII. I picked the MKII, because I'm planning on picking up one of the Behringer ADA8000's (budget, like i said). Instead of having to buy two of those, I thought I would get a box with analog ins so I could have 16 ins in combination with my behringer analog mixer.

Just think long term... Are you going to need more than 16 i/o? Are you even going to OWN more than 16 nice mics in the near future?

I weighed my options, And decided that I'm not going to need more than 16 ins for quite some time.

Of course, if you went with the MOTU, you would have 16 + the analog i/o =24.

If you got the 9652, you would have 24, but you would have to buy another 8 channel adat A/D converter to access those.

Do you think there would be a sound difference between the analog and the digital signals if i were to go for the Motu and end up using all the ins at the same time? Although I really cant think of a time I would personally have to do that. I think for the time being, and the futur for that matter I would be fine with the RME. Hmmm time to look around for some old crap to sell on ebay ;)

You've got the strategy down! I no longer let myself buy ANYTHING on ebay, lest i pawn something off first...

There wouldn't be a noticeable difference using the analog ins on the MOTU with the digital ADATs from your mixer. The analog ins on the MKII and up have 24bit A/D converters, so they should be pretty similar to the ones on your board (i think the MKI is 20bit).

How many ins does your mixer have? Because I spose if you got the MOTU you would also have the advantage of being able to mix with another 8 outs which you could put into your board in addition to the adat 16.
