Hi everyone. Nice comprehensive forums.

I'm an old timer from London Uk.

My ADAT has packed up. Click click click from the PSU. Does anyone have a circuit diagram? I'd like to fix it . . .

TIA

It's a condencer that needs to be changed. I don't have any adat here in front of me so I can't give you the code from the psu board, but you should find it pretty easily. It's marked JPCON 100(micro)F, 50V on one side and VENT 85(degrees)C, SK on the other. Round black thing, aprrox. 1/2" tall with a grey stripe and grey text. (Not sure about how much you are into electronics so I may sound a bit kindergarten-ish here).
Replace it with one with the same numbers (easy to find in electronics stores, very cheap). The temperature doesn't have to be the exact same though, just 85 or more. It's a very easy soldering job.
Hope I could help!

I am deeply indebted to you. thank you so much.

Did you have a similar experience, or do you just know these switched mode designs?

I up-rated the capacitor to 100V just in case it had been working near its limits.

I used to do a little circuit building, usually based round op-amps, and as such my knowledge is limited, and this design of PSU has become widespread since I last dabbled - very interesting it is too, I intend to read up on them.

Once again, many thanks.

No problem.

I learned this from a guy I know who is kind of the "official" service tech of alesis products here in sweden, at the main importers office. He has helped me out with every little adat problem I've had for several years (though I have gone over to HD24 now). I also recently got a X2 table and his help has been inevitable since I got it!
The concencer in question is apparenlty the main cause of problems in old adats. I've had to change it two times on two different machines, so I recognized the malfunction.
