hello yall...
I have found an thing on the internet that, by using soundforges acustic mirror. removes the proberties of an SM58 and the adds the properties of an NEUMANN or an AKG microphone... has anyone tried this or could someone try it for me? i dont have an SM58 but im thinking of buying one... especially if this works?

the adress to the page is:

mmmm.... don't want to make you sad...

I use it, but it is not that true...

Let me put it this way.... a NEUMANN, a SHURE, are pieces of hardware with unique properties... no software can make an old ford run like a Corvette or a Ferrari...

It has great effect in some things, but that's it... if the thing was that simple, all major super pro mic manufacturers would be broken...

once the sound is captured by the mic, you can tweak it, but if some frequencies weren't captured in the first place by the mic, no software can "make them up" as if they were captured by another mic... try it though...it does not harm...

Not necessary an SM58, it's generic...try any mic you have...

Peace...

I knew that i couldnt simulate it to 100% that is impossible...
but how good is it? have you tried the amp simulations to?

I use SF acoustic mirror quite a lot. the amp simulations can be decent, as long as you don't overdo it.
adding about 30% of the signature of an ampeg SVT to a DI'd electric bass can do wonders. you need to keep an eye on phase issues, though.
another sensible application for acoustic mirror is reverb. on the downside, this will only work offline - you need to render the files.

for online mic modelling, try the antares mic modeller:

http://www.antarestech.com/products/amm.html

it features a tube emulation that actually works pretty well. I use this plug mostly to warm up synth pads, though.

hope this helps.
