Hi

I would like to know if we can use active monitors with a regular sound system ? I bought the Behringer Truth B2031A and I would like to listen music with them. The output of my sound system is the red and black connectors that you use for regular speakers (passive monitors ?). Is there an adaptor for this or should I look for a sound system that has RCA outputs ?

Thanks,

Jack Real.

NO!!!!!!!!!!

You absolutely must NEVER plug active monitors to passive speaker outputs on your amplifier....

Active monitors expect a line-level audio signal ONLY... speaker outputs from an amplifier are way above line-level - you'll blow your input stage on the actives by doing that.

You can use one of the tape rec outs to run to the actives, but only passive speakers can be connected to amplified speaker outputs.

Hi Bruce

Thanks for the answer. Since my system doesn't have a tape rec out, do you know if it's o.k. to use the headphone output ?

I'm thinking of buying the Sony "Super Audio CD player SCD-CE595" because it has RCA outputs. Is there a better CD player to use with monitors ?

Since I won't go though an HiFi amplifier, I won't have the coloration that those devices are producing. I'm assuming it's a good thing right ?

Thanks,

Jack Real.

The headphone out is the wrong impedence, and you still run the risk of causing damage to your actives. You need something that can send a line level out.

As for the CD player, that will work fine, but if you're going directly in to your monitors you won't be able to eq it.

Hi MadAudio

Thanks for the answer. I will get the CD player this weekend and then use the monitors to listen to CDs. There is some EQ setting on the Behringers but if I feel I need more EQing, I will look into getting a HiFi amplifier with Tape Rec Out but that's becomming expensive.

Hi

Just an update on this one. I bought a DVD player and I connected the audio out directly to the monitors but that was too loud. So now, I'm using a tape deck to reduce the volume (DVD out -> tape deck -> monitors). I'm not recording with the tape deck, I'm only using the "In" button to control the amount of signal that I want to send to the monitors.
