I have a large body flat top that I am having trouble micing. I am currently using an Audio Technica AT83b condenser mic. The sound coming from the PA sounds thin and doesn't do justice to the tone of my guitar- it sound perfect by it's self. I think I need to run the acoustic through some sort of EQ. What would be a good EQ with out spending Big $$$$$ and would a pre-amp other that what comes with the AT831b be any better? Thanks.

I think you need a separate preamp like the Art Tube MP or a small mixer ($100-$300). The mixer will even come with 3-band EQ.

Or U could get the Presonus Bluetube...... itz a dual channel tube MP, and most people like it A LOT more than the ART tube mp........ its also $159 if I remember corretly, I have one and am quite pleased with it.

Would I use the pre amp with or instead of the preamp that came with the mic? Will I need a seperate suply for the phantom power? Thanks

Both the ART tube MP & Presonis Blue Tube have 48 V Phatom Power

The AT831b is according to the specs on the homepage ( http://www.audio-technica.com/prodpro/profiles/AT831b.html ) a small clip-on cardoid mic, and is supposed to "excel" in acoustic guitar applications. So it should be possible to get a good sound.

The sound from an acoustic changes a lot depending on how you place the mic. Move it around, and try different places. It can be hard with a clip-on, since you are kinda limited to where you can clip it on, though...

Since you alreday have a pream specially tailored for that mic, I guess you should continue using that, but I don't have any experience of this specific mic, mind you...
