Lemme know what ya think :p
Our new singer, recorded last night.....

damn. I wish I had a good singer like that but instaid I'm stuck with myself.

He's got a Verry Verry Nice voice. scpecially for this style of music.

your lucky to pick up someone with a voice like that.

or wure you asking about the mix?

Thanks Nick for listening, yes he does have a good voice...We are very lucky not only cause he's good but he is great to listen to... :p

How is the mix anyway...not that it's gunna make a big difference cause we're gunna add drums, bass and electric guitar to it...

Well, yeah how is the mix? it's the 1st time I've recorded acoustic guitar...

and the first time I mixed the singer...so I suppose some tips would be cool as far as how it stands now.... :)

He's good! Was the mix contest your old singer or you?

Cool song. Like the guitar tone. You may have to do to his voice what I sometimes have to do to mine. When he's sing low the s's and t's could just use a tiny bit of help. When he's belting it's perfect. He's excellent though. Tell him I said so K. I was trained buy a classic jazz singer of some stature. So I think my opinion counts  Wish I had the self dissaplin (SP) to practice. I'm so far off now it's not funny;)

Anyhoo, Very much awsome!

Thanks FS...whaddya mean by the low "t" and "s" thing??? Bring them out more or kill em more???

The mix contest was the old singer... I couldn't sing myself out of a paper bag... :o

Nice guitar sound....very clean. Great voice. With just the guitar and vocals, it's mixed really well. Very even to me. Nice tune also, man. I like the sounds.

I ment a hair more 5k I mean a tiny bit, prob is when he's belting its perfect so If I had to mess with the whole vocal track I'd leave it alone. You could easily leave them alone too.

Well lets just say the new guy kicks the old guys ass all over the place!! :D

Thanks Dogman, and FS!

FS, here is the updated ver...

More vox (1.5 dB) and a boost up on the highs.... too much or are we good ?

I also moved the verb in and EQ'd it to get rid of some more muck.... :)

Sounds really nice...not sure I can tell much difference...it's really good. Vocals seem to sit a bit better, but that could be my imagination.

Sounds nice.

Guitars sound really good.

On the vox, I would try to eq out some of the nasillyness (is that even a word??) Maybe add a bit of sparkle to the top, and get some weight added to it with a bit of compression. All minor adjustments.

Nice work! :D

edit - oops, I listened to the original. I always listen before I read what everyone has said to avoid any bias.....

I like it better in the mellow part, still listening for stronger vocals........

I think it's a little too far, Personally I'd split the diff. Ends up being a bit too much sparkle in the stronger vocals. On the verge of getting a little harsh.

Still sounds good though. Given the choice between the two mixes as a whole I'd take the first but I am likely in the minority.

Anyway, I'd try splitting the diff.

Yes I agree FS, I put it in my car (the tried and true method of listening) and I think it's a tad too sizzling on the heavy(loud) parts...

I'm almost thinking NL is on the money with his suggestion.... I tried to not use any compression at all, but I think it needs just a hair... That should take care of the low level vocal issues....

I think the 1st I like better too, and over all not bad for a 1st time shot... but we all like it to be just right... lol :p :p :p :p

Sounds great. Acoustic guitars sound good too. How were they miked? Or were they recorded direct?

Great work dude...all around...I listened to it twice now, on my desktop with good speakers and right now through my laptop and the sound is still good.

Not at all bad;)

I would say a tad of compression would not hurt in any case. He's pretty even handed but a little leveling never hurt anyone. You will have to see how his voice reacts to compression... Just have to see what comes up when compressed. Any hi pass on the vocals? Might try a slight cut at 500hz or so. That may be a masking freq.

I'll b eback for a listen.

M'aky, i didn't test this anywhere (just on the monitors) so I'm using 'the force' of what I 'think' it needed....

Light comp, plus I evened out the vocals, which I think brings up the high end on it's own, and added a hair more top to the vox.... around 5-8k

the vocals seem to sit on top a bit more, bringing out a bit more clarity on the lighter sung passages.... I pretty much evened out the dynamics between the loud and the soft...there is still dynamic range in the vocal performance, just evened it out to be more consistent... (I think, and hope lol )

------the guitar was double 'taked' One direct line and one with a crappy MXL 990 on the sound hole (about 5 inches away hung upside down) so it's 4 total tracks... and I using mostly the mic'd tracks, with just a tiny amount of the direct mixed in to bring out some of the aireyness

Ok time to call me a big Ahole:) I think I like the first mix best. If it was me I would split the vocals into two tracks and do what you did to the second mix to the mellower vocals at the begining and leave the later stuff alone.

At least that's the way I remember it.

Feel free to ignore me, but that's how I see it. You're the one taking the mix to other systems, not me.

You saved all the mixes right? Might be nice to do an a/b on them.

Look under my late dogs picture to the left and see what it says;)

I personally like the mellower vocals on the second mix and the later vocals on the first mix.

ROFL, I betcha between the two of us we could possibly find our way out of a paper bag...Between what it says under your late dogs pic (sorry to hear that btw) and what it says in my 'location'... seems like we oughta be able to accomplish amazing feats... :p :p :p

I think I need a rest till tomorrow, and yes BTW I've saved each incrimental change so I can always go back....

I think maybe the vox are just a hair too loud now.... so maybe just turning them down a tad might put them where they need to be...

I'll go back to number 5  and work off that...
