Hi

I have a 16ft x 8 ft home recording studio. I want to add acoustic foam to the room, however I am unsure about how much I need. I was contemplating doing the complete ceiling and adding patches to the walls?

I have a drum kit in the room and I will be recording guitars and vox as well.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks,

Paul

First let me say that I am not an expert but I know that if you add too many acoustic type panels without bass traps the frequency of the room will not be even. My room is not treated at all but has a lot of diffusion and, at least to my ear, sounds pretty good.

Foam is expensive and only helps with flutter echo to like 2k.

Your most important issue after reflections is going to be the low end. You are basically almost screwed there for perfection, but things can be done to improve the space.

Are you handy? Can you build a frame out of wood?

Do you own the property? Can you open up the ceiling to the joists?
