I Like Rusty Spoons
here's a new acoustic track. i'm still messing around with acoustic mic'ing techniques (i've been recording for almost 7 years, you'd think i would have some idea of what sounds alright).

i used a MCA SP2 condensor about 6 inches from the soundhole on the rhythm and about 3 inches away from the base of the neck for the little lead part. i was going for a punchy rhythm track.

vocals, same mic, but i plan on re-doing the vocals (they can definitely be better)

check it out if you feel like at http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=2635&alid=-1

it's called Hey Suburbia (and to the punk fans, it's a Screeching Weasel song originally)

Listening on headphones...

Acoustic rhythm guitar sounds good. Nice bass to it and it has a full sound. Not sure if it would sound 'boomy' on speakers or not, hard to tell with headphones.

I don't like the vocals. I wouldn't say they're terrible but I'd definitely redo them.

Everything other than that sounds fine to me. What kind of acoustic is that? Sounds kind of like an Art & Luthrie.

acoustic is a $99 santa rosa my parents bought me when i was in 6th grade about 10 or 11 years ago...as for the vocals it was about 11pm by the time i got around to them, so my voice is pretty shot. i just needed something to fill that empty void.

Sounds pretty good - however to me, the acoustic doesn't have as much attack to it as I'd like. It's kinda dampened sounding for the song. That can be fixed in the EQ. I don't think you're having mic position problems really, well, though the attack could be fixed with good placement as well.

I get a good attack to my acoustic using 2 mic. I have a Large condensor about 2-3 feet away from the acoustic center, and where the neck and bridge meet I place a small condensor facing the hole. Just my technique and from what i can tell fairly popular if mic placement is what you want to play with.
