I have a really good guitar recording that I love the quality of, it was recorded through direct input from an acoustic electric and run through soft-knee compression, and it's got an excellent sound to it, but it's got a very high-pitched guitar pick sound in it that I can't seem to get rid of, or at least turn down a lot. I'm pretty sure the frequency it's on is somewhere about 4 kHz. Anyone have any ideas how to knock it out via EQ?

You can try a parametric EQ set so the band you cut is very narrow, and sweep the frequency to find the right place to cut. Cut as little as possible, as it's likely your pick noise is gonna be right in a range you want to keep to preserve your nice guitar sound. Try (if you can) EQing before compressing, and compressing before EQing. One is likely to sound better than the other. If the pick noise is really obvious before compressing, you may not have a lot of luck in any case. You might have to rerecord with an ear toward placing your mics a bit differently or modifying your technique to minimze pick noise.

Boingoman's right about parametric eq. I find that eqing it before compression works better for me. Also, using a heavier pick will sometimes eliminate the problem.
