acorec is gone

He has been banned. It is his great pleasure to sacrifice himself for the common good as he has made a stand to oust a guy named A Reel Person. A Reel Person is insulting and goes off unprovoced on many people and puts people down as soon as they say anything good about digital recording. Not like DJL, but worse. A Reel Person has also posted many songs written by The Beatles, Rolling Stones etc. on Nowhere Radio (a public website) and has sold more than 440 copies! I have read so many times here that stealing software is frowned upon, but I guess stealing money away from artists is OK? And Dragon lets A Reel Person sell the CDs right here when Harvey got banned for a lesser charge ( at least what Harvey was doing was legal).


I dearly hope that people stand up for what is right and tell A Reel Person that spamming and stealing is not the way of this BBS.


This BBS is becoming a really sad place and the mic forum had it's share. Now it is the Analog Forum that is going through it.

A "Mechanical Copyright Infringement" has nothing to do with making $$$.

You can record something that is copyrighted and give it away free, it is still unlawful without licensing and paying royalties.

A Reel Person is charging for these CDs. It does not matter if he is only charging what he paid for them, it is still spamming and I thought spamming was against HR's rules. So. I guess when it comes time for people who throw a hissy fit about stealing songs and software, it only applies to everyone BUT an HR member selling CDs ('cause he's a nice guy). Harvey is a nice guy too, but he got banned and told to follow the rules.

It is time to put a foot down and pony up to reality. A Reel Person is a rulebreaker and a criminal.

I agree with the part about paying the royalties, proper licensing, etc. That's important, and as a composer I can relate to that, as I've been ripped off myself.

However, the banning probably came about because acorec was going after A Reel Person in threads that were unrelated to the royalty topic. Completely off-topic in other words, and that's something that most message board administrators have a problem with.

If acorec really has a problem with A Reel Person selling or giving away these recordings, the thing to do would be to notify whoever is administering the rights to the music. If the music is indeed pirated that might get results. And if the music is properly paid for, then no harm done to anyone. But posting off-topic about this on a message board is an exercise in futility in my opinion.

It's unfortunate that acorec has been banned, because I've enjoyed his posts and in my experience found him to be a good contributor.

We posted at the same time. Since you are going to ASCAP, that is the correct avenue to pursue. It seems hardball, and I doubt I would do it unless my own music was involved, but you are sticking up for the right things. I'll be interested to know what the results are.

I guess we'll never know how the ASCAP thing turned out. Seems like it kind of matters, too. I assume things are legit until proven otherwise, but some serious accusations have been made, and I'm now curious as to what is really going on.
