Hey I am posting here to get some opinions on Diatonic Accordion Microphones.

First of all normally what we use in my country are Hohner Erica Diatonic Accordions
we normally install a Shure Beta 58a inside the accordion and mount an external xlr jack to the top and wire it all in there. we disassemble the mic to just take the actual mic cartridge and wire it in.

However the sound we get from these mics when placed inside the accordion is different from the sound of the mic placed outside of the accordion.

I am looking for a microphone that will give me the most natural sound when placed inside.

Ive also tried the sennheiser e845 and it didnt go well at all. the mic gave me tons of feedback when performing on stage.

I've had to mic up a ton of accordions through the years and many of the performers just want two SM57s one on the key side and one on the button side.

As for mounting inside - there have been a few that have had them installed inside but I never asked what the set up was.

thanks for your reply. I really am looking for a better microphone for the accordion, or perhaps a better mounting position inside the accordion.

I've done a lot of work with Gary Sredzienski.

Do a google search for *accordion master Gary Sredzienski* to find his web site - he will be able to put you in the right direction.

There was a company in Italy that made a special Accordion microphone system based on Sennheiser MKE2 / KE4 mini microphone capsules.

I think THIS is them.

Just out of curiosity, why so important that the mic be inside? Like Moresound, I've had great success with the good ol' 57 on this instrument. Is there something about it that doesn't work for you?

And to add to this, the "natural" sound of the accordion isn't found within the instrument... it's what you hear when standing either in front of it, or holding it. The sound from inside will never sound completely natural, imo.

Last year, I made a couple of contact mics using piezo transducers for my friends accordion. You may like to try that out, as it's cheap and pretty easy to make, if you know your way around a soldering iron. A buffer circuit must be made as well, to retain the lower frequencies of the instrument.

Thrash punk/metal polkas!

Gotta be head banging :thumbs up:

The only accordion player I play with just plugs in direct. Is this not a good option? Or are all accordions not equipped with a 1/4" out?

I do confess that I am not an accordion conosieur. It seems that the only thing I would rather not stick a mic in front of is bagpipes.

He plugs in because he has an accordion microphone already installed inside the accordion.

Ah yes, thanks John, that makes sense. After all, how could there be a pick-up in there. It's not like a piezo would pick up all that action.
