Absolute favorite mic for snare drum

i hate the 57 on top, i love it on bottum, and the i5 is the one on top for me, thats a great sounding combo for about 200$ so can pass that up

I just picked up an Apex 205 Ribbon. 100 bucks. I put it about four inches above the snare, facing downward, with the mic just looking directly over the rim of the snare about 1/2 an inch.

Best drum sound I've gotten...not that I've experimented all that much. Formerly tried Studio Projects B3, SM57, and a small diaphragm Shure condenser on snare. This Apex Ribbon takes the cake.

We tried an SM58 on our last recording and the snare came out golden.

i haven't tried anything else but my sm-57 hanging down aimed at the edge. too many mic placements, too little time...
