Ableton frustration help please

Hi folks. I'm new to home recording and have just acquired a focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and using Ableton live lite 8 on a windows 8 laptop.
I'm having real problems firstly trying to download the plug in suite... Simply wont open for me to register the product code.

The problem when I try to record in live lite 8 is there simply isn't the record arm button on the track.. I mean where there is a record arm button on the demo video , on mine there isn't one.. Just a grey blank space!
I have tried nearly everything and I'm really puzzled as to why I'm not getting this button or any means to record arm the track.

I'm at the very beginning of trying to do some very basic home recording but already I'm totally baffled! Any help or advice as to how to find the missing buttons? Many thanks.

when you first install ableton, on the right side panel there are tutorials you can go through that start out basic and then get more complex. If you do the first few, your question will be answered, use the tutorials, that is why they are included...
