aardvark or non-pre and mixer?

Alrighty then...

i'm learning pretty fast i think.
the aardvark hey
it has the preamp built in right?
it's around 600 bucks
now if i bought a sound card without the pre's and a mixer would it be a lot more expensive or what?
oh could anyone name a few sound cards without preamps but in the same quality category(and with 8 inputs)?
cause it seems the analog mixing thing is a lot easier, though i'm beginning to see the advantage of mixing in the computer. it just seems such a hassle to do everything with the mouse.

Aardvark 24/96

I bought the Aardvark Direct Pro about 6 months and although it is a hassle to use the mouse to set the faders etc... YOu can save settings. The pre amps are very clean and provide a ton of headroom. I get a great sound usiing the Direct Pro and am considering buying another. Hopefully they will improve thier software interface (make it bigger- full screen and allow for keyboard short cuts or key-bindings).
ALl in all - I like the Aardvark over a sepaerate mixer, eq, compressor, etc..

Anyone else own the Direct Pro?

i will wait for the q32 then caus i want 8 simultaneous mic running...
but then again...
what would a preamp cost and is it possible to get a 8 input preamp?

hi

i use the pro too. it is really good a piece of equpiement.
the first time i recorded with it i was impressed with the quality of the sound. the preamps are great and v48 really kicked me.
i wish the mixer was biger and more usefull.
the asio are also good but asio 2.0 would be better.

guhlenn, don't hold your breath for the Q32, Aardvark say it will ship in the 1st quarter of 2001, but the Direct Pro shipped about 6 months late.

I've just got my Direct Pro and its main boast it that you can add effects to the incoming signal in real time before you record it, but the general consensus on these boards is that you should always record dry and then add effects after during the mix, so I ask what's the point?! Although adding compression to a signal before you record it seems like a good idea to me.

I use the direct pro and my only complaint is the mouse thing, it is a real pain in the ass adjusting the settings, but like stated above you can save them, it is very very easy to use and truly is plug and play.

mostly i'm glad the compressor thing is in it cause i heard a lot of shit about compression.
Does anyone have good experience with software compressors?
please let me know what you think?

damnit am i stupid or what???
the 2408 isn't that expensive at all . Well relatively....
it's cheaper than the 1224 anyway.

one question:

motu brags about their output of 116 dB on the 1224 and the 2408 it isn't stated very clear but i think it's 105 dB.

What's the difference?
