AA3 keeps stopping and playing during recording

I just installed Adobe Audition 3 on my computer which has Windows 7, and for some reason when I play a track or try to record something in it, the whole thing keeps stopping then playing every 0.5 seconds or so. It seems like it's on beat too, like a metronome would be. I tried searching the internet but couldn't find anyone with a similar problem. Any ideas as to what's wrong? Thanks in advance.
 
I have an ASIO driver from when I installed Fruity Loops. I'll try reinstalling it.
 
have you got any FX enabled in the existing tracks, i had that problem and just disabled the FX,
