If thats your first, I`m very impressed. I enjoyed the tight trotting bass line although it tires you in a while. Guitar playing is very nice. I wish somebody lived on my street that can play like that. Overall, clean, tasteful, no junk, a little piled up in the middle of the stereo field (probly from mixing in the headphones). I'm a rookie at digital recording at home, I learned a lot listening to your mix. 'hope I get to hear more from you.

thanks toki....and I WISH this was my first. What it would be like to be a teenager again and ride the "ride" again. I'm probably one of the older guys around here...:(

I relate to the "piling up" in the center, because for the most part the synth and guitar are stereo tracks (but then panned opposite during the B section), and do tend to overide each other. I just tried to musically not step on either instrument, as an attempt to keep them "separate" and not interferring with each other.

This is basically a riff/jam that I seem to be able to come up with kinda quickly, but I see its' limitations too. I like to do these A LOT, and try for a melodic guitar line on top. That line can always become a vocal melody too, I suppose. These riffs usually occur in about 5 or 10 minutes from start to end....then I spend the rest of my life trying to figure out how to incorporate it into something...or actually morph it into a song.

Wow,great guitar playing Chris!
Mix was crystal,as usual.

The only thing I didn't care for was the bass,a little too repeditive.

Sounds like it has a lot of potential, pretty good for a rough mix.
Needs a strong melody,to set it apart.IMHOP

Looking foward to hearing more!

Pete

Well Done

The sounds blend well and cover a large spectrum!

One of these days you will be doing something and remember this cut. It's good enough to keep around until you find a place for it.

Nothing wrong with an "80's Sound"
A ton of great tunes came out of that era! Without it most of todays bands wouldn't have a sound to draw from.

Nice cut!

that boring, eh??:( :D

I think he was referring to a date rape drug that has the same nickname is the title of your thread.

"ruphies" or "Ruphenols"...something like that.LOL.

Great Mix... Mix!
Very Halen sounding.. I love that sound
Right after you did that guitar solo part I was thinking of Poison :)
hehe
As usual awsome job... I wanna hear the ending.. like some of my songs :)

take care!

Hey Mix........
........wooo hoooooo....... oh yeah, serious 1984!!! Takes me back to high school in a big way! .....very nice mix man..... lotsa space and nice guit tone. ......makes me feel like smokin a fatty and pickin up chics after the football game. ......the good ole days. Finish this man.:)

Hey man did anyone else mention Van Halen? No? Well... let me be the first!

You just smile and the picture sells. Look what that does to me....

Alright, jokes aside, this has some extremely nice guitar sounds man. You were playing a lot of notes in the upper registers, yet they sounded very very warm. None of that 2K ear piercing shit a lot of people get in that range. Nicely done.

You may as well throw some vocal on there and get it over with :D

That takes me back as well. Very 80's, but that's obvious. Reminds me a lot of the theme music you'd hear on Television from those days, Miami Vice, Turner and Turner or whatever that show was, the one with Mr. T in it (no I didn't watch it). It's on TV now though, so I catch it the odd time... getting off topic.

I thought the guitars sounded nice, but could have been brought up a bit in volume. I don't know if adding vocals to this are necessary, it stands as a cool instrumental.

Solid drummer, who is it Phil Rudd? :)

Good stuff mixmkr.

and your problem is ???? Joe...try getting a grip eh? I thought you liked Def Leperd (sp? ) and the 80's production styles that went with it. I do to... But for some bizzare reason, it appears that you are trying to read between the lines somewhere and think that I am making uncomplimentory comments your way. If you think so..that's become your problem. But I'd say it is all manufactured. But, you're the one that has to live with it...so you can have it your way. I thought in my post I was commenting about myself and my music.

And sjoko.. if you've heard more of Joe's stuff, than is on the internet, then I suppose you DO know his music better than me. How fortunate you really are then, and how unfortunate for me.

If you guys wanna start the flame fest...then go ahead. I can call you guys "pricks" with the best of them. Preferably...that would not be my first choice.

and Joe...if you've read this far....how come?? :p

I'm imagining your cave thread about me, is stemming from this..... If you really were being complimentary I apoligize for calling you a dick....

It just seemed very similar to that time you ripped my music, calling the leads simple, and dated sounding or something like that, so I figured this was extention from that...

Even Sjoko, took it that way, and a friend that was viewing it here at my house.

But as I said.. If you were truly trying to be complimentary... Then I totally apoligize.

I wanted to think about it for a day, before I came back with a resolution. But Seeing that other thread in the cave tonight, I felt compelled to come back and make all well.

No hard feelings. Seriously.

Joe

Nice song. I got a Miami Vice feel.

I loved the lead guitar part. Very nice. The bass sounded nice as well. Good work.

See, it's so easy to accidentally offend on the internet, so it's nice to see this kind of statement from Joe. For example, Mixmkr called me a "complete fool," who offers "wrong-way" advice, but I see now that he was probably giving me a compliment!!

:D
:D
:D

(are there enough smiley faces here yet to adequately convey that I'm a super laid back kinda' guy that doesn't let this sort of thing bother him?). okay, here's more :D :D :D

Seriously, no flaming = good.

The keys made it sound Van Halen-ish.

I have an ART SGX 2000 still in working condition I find the distortions to be totally "out-of-the-box" guitar tones used in a lot of 4 track demos in the 80's. But i get some nice tones out of it plugging acoustic/electrics into the cleaner Chorusy tones.
I still manage to find uses for the noisy ol' beast in recordings here and there.

But ya, you can probably use this as a solo vamp then sell it to your local tv news station they can play it behind the sports scores. The sound qaulity sounds good enough to my ears.

The guitar playing is cool.
It has a very 1980's qaulity to the playing and the sound.
Which is to say it doesnt sound like A 1990's Kurt Cobain spin-off.

sounds cool but it makes no musical statement to me.
I'm a guitarist but more of a song guy than the blow your wad solo playing of Satch or Vai.

To me Eddie was always better cuz you could party to his songs.
He wrote better songs than Malmsteen or Vai combined. okay enough of my rant, you get the idea. I like songs.

Gimmie a verse, Chorus bridge and a killer solo and you impress me. play all that solo noodling on one string and you'll impress me.

Do you think you can get a verse and killer chorus outta this?

As a songwritter thats what you should ask yourself during every one of these ideas you record.

Just some thoughts,

yep....sounds great......mix is nicely done.......it just has no soul....?....i mean the guitar work was actually pretty good.....but im not jumping up and down....altho i couldnt ACTUALLY play it. myself...lol.....all in all...a lot of nicely mixed elements with no where to go....hope this doesnt sound like im a big huge asshole...... .....i think lyrics could really make a difference here ......have any??.....jeez ..i really do sound like an ass tho.......sorry.

thanks
jamal

nice... it needs more of a melody to it then just jamming IMHO...
it had some ideas in the jamm though.. good mix too...

Whoa ... havin' an 80's flashback ...
Sounds great over here on the lo-fi...Drums sound nice. Brings me back to Jr. High (I guess I'm giving away my age now ... :)
