This is a demo of a band I play with. We actually do mostly adult/acoustic/rock stuff, but this one slipped into our set as well...

Recorded at our lead guitarists house on a HD24. Drums, bass and vocals are all from the first take. You can actually hear the singer talking durring the guitar solo

We've been using this as in our press kits and actually get people requesting this damn song now.

I'm not a fan of digital recording but I'd be interested in general impressions on this one.

Sounds really good actually, what is the rest of your setup? The mix is solid, the only thing I could even say is maybe a tad less reverb on the vox. Nice job and good song!

Opening bass sounds a bit flubby and there's no high end definition to the band, but the vox sound pretty well done. The vocalist sounds like a good performer and has a good sounding "blues" voice. I like the first guitar leads, tasty and tasteful.

On to the second guitar lead, the riffs are coming without hesitation more capable blues runs. Nice twangy tone. The bass/rhythm sections seem like they could maybe have spruced up their parts a bit some variation.

Sounds like it was a fun song to record.

The singer was actually sitting down in the control room singing into an SM57... funny since we had access to about $10k worth of really nice mics and we ended up keeping the scratch track.

I think he mixed in pro-tools from the HD24. I was playing through a Bass POD. Both guitarists play original 60's deluxe reverbs. One had a tele, one played a martin d-series.

Beyond that, I'm not to sure what was used. We tracked all day Saturday, and the guitarists went back Sunday and did their parts. The singer got "rough" mixes of most of the material to work with through the week so he could go back and do the vocals the following weekend. That's what that mix is.

slobbermonster, you nailed it. I always get accused of wanting to much 8kHz and up in the mix, bright hihat, etc. I figure if i can hear the squeek on the acoustic guitar strings, it's about right... ?

Of course now, we're locked into doing this song at every single show... and don't get me started on the line dancing... ;)

I can't open the link!!! GHHHHAAAA! I hate my pc! ANY WAYYYY!!! Is that Johhny Cash's Folsum Prison Blues? I think that song kicks but for being almost 50 years old!

Great performance of a great song.

The mix seems to be lacking some hi-mid/high end. The guitars have an odd room sound. Distance micing?

Kick and Bass sound ok, but the snare is missing some definition.

Man your guitar player smokes.

Very nice performance.
