I am looking into buying the Crate V Series V18-212 18W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp but are they really worth the price guitar center is asking for?

Click this to see it on guitar center for more specs!

Anyways I have made up my mind for a epiphone les paul for my guitar. Just need a good sounding reliable amp that will give me a nice "pop punk" taking back sunday sound.

I have Palomino 30 watt 212 and it is outstanding. I have thousands of dollars worth of great amps and that Palomino is right up there with the best. It blows away anything remotely in it's price range. I'm pretty sure the amp you're looking at is the same as the 18 watt Palomino.

o0o0o0o. Just found an ok deal I think. Hows about this almost is mint condition all tube Crate amp. A Crate V5212 for only $380. Good deal yes, no?

The 50 watt models are different...fixed biased I believe. The 18 and 30 watt models are cathode biased, meaning they are very touch sensitive, compress nicely with a smooth breakup. You can get a 1x12 30 watt Palomino on ebay for $350 or so new. GC was blowing them out...I don't know if they still are? Anyway that's what I'd recommend. Great amp!!

So will this crate give me the "pop punk" smooth sound (similiar to taking back sunday) that I want so bad... I am compiling a list of amps to check out so should this be on it?

I have a Marshall JCM 800M that's from the '80s, and it's 100 watt. I have a Marshall cabinet with the original Greenbacks [speakers] in it. I also play a [Gibson] SG Special through that.

Every pop-punk record I've EVER heard usually has that standard Marshall JCM800 or JCM900 sound to it, so look into amps that sound like that. Also, with speakers, look for Celestion Vintage 30's or Greenbacks etc... Pretty much standard issue stuff.

I've been talking up the Peavey Windsor a lot lately (sounds very JCM-ish). I don't own one, but a trusted source recorded a few clips of one that I really loved. Check it out.

The V5212 is a Class A/B amp with 6L6 power tubes. In otherwords, it'll make your ears bleed before you're able to turn it up enough to get the power tubes to saturate and sound good. I've owned one.

The v32, v33, v18 and similar are class A with EL84 tubes, like a Vox AC30. I own two of them, and they are awesome.

I have a V32 Palomino and I bought it a couple years ago. From what I read, the new ones aren't made in the USA anymore, mine was made in the USA. I'm not sure if it's true or not. Anyway, I think it's a great amp. At 30W though it is still too loud for playing in the bedroom. At level 6 it is very loud but after level 6 I think it doesn't get louder anymore, it's just a "hotter" signal with more overdrive. I have a modified Metal Zone MT-2 and I can get a wide range of distortion and clean tones from it.

Went with the epiphone class A stack. These babies are hot! I'm sure I'll get the sound I'm looking for out of these suckers cause the sound came to my friend while messing around...

I love my Palominos!

Lol...They only had a 30 watt palomino... lol... I didnt want to wait to try out the others so I went with the epiphone stack with a volume pedal! Anyways I was really looking at the windsor because of the attenuator...

2 x 12' speaker - man that'd be interesting. Imagine the air they'd move & the power it'd take to move them to move the air.
So, despite the recommendations & discussion you went with something else you HEARD, PLAYED on & Liked? Good!
