I was just wondering, I am thinking of buying an American Standard Telecaster (vintage white/maple), but i was wondering that if i bought a vintage bridge plate (has the lips on the side) if it would fit a current day american standard... any help on whether it fits or other options would be very helpful.. thanks

Go to the Tele Tech forum on the Tele Discussion group-there will either be an answer in the archives or you can sign up and someone will be able to help you with an answer. I think that the vintage bridge will be shorter-but these guys are the experts!

I believe the bridge plate is just as Anfontan decribed it. The vintage lacking the length of the original, however I believe you find that it fits the rear pickup cutout and thru body string holes perfectly. You'll just see a bit more wood at the rear of the vintage's bridge plate.

BTW: It also appears to fit a mexican tele, and definitely will not work with
a squire though, not with out wood work anyway.

my guess is that it will not fit without redrilling. it will likely fit the string-thru and pickup spacing......but the screw holes won't match up. i had a similar problem with my '88 tele and a "vintage" bridge plate.

cheers,

If youre talking about the ashtray, 3 brass barrell bridge(The ONLY real tele bridge IMHO!!!). The screw holes and pickup will easily swap out w/ no refitting, but I do think it is a bit shorter. I have made this swap a couple of times before with no problem, but they were both "relic" type projects.

Just make sure the bridge is returnable if it doesnt work out.
