When something is on sale for a fixed price or best offer, how much do you offer?
I'm looking at a mixer for $314 or best offer. The same company is selling the same mixer for $299 firm on another page.

Find the lowest price everywhere else then subtract the shipping charge and offer that amount. If they already offer free shipping then subtract about $20.
 
"Or best offer" is pretty subjective. The guy who needs to sell something quick (say to pay the rent) will take a lot less than the guy who just wants to clear out some space in the closet. Many sellers post prices much higher than they really expect to get so a 50% offer might take the sale, 10% to 15% less than the asking price should be more than sufficient for a "best offer."
 
What I do with the "or best offer" is to go substantially lower. The seller usually comes back with a "no" and for the next hour ensues a game of cat and mouse. The question I ask myself is "Would I have bought it at the 'buy it now' price and been happy ?". If I can answer "yeah", then any money shaved off is a good thing, n'est pas ?
 
I've had mixed success with ebay. shipping is an issue and obvious long distance returns and crap with the buyer or seller.

the last thing I bought was a guitar, then i sold it on ebay, and the buyer said it came scratched, i gave him some money back as he disputed it all and complained and they froze the money etc..etc.. a royal pain in the arse. It was mint when I sent it, but the shipping back and forth would have eaten all the costs blahblahblah....

...and in the end, ebay wasn't very "convenient".:rolleyes:

brick n' mortar for my 2 cents, whenever possible. touch it, plug it in, have a receipt maybe 30days return...iz bery nice.:D
