Ok, this is actually the intro to the whole project. I've got two guitars panned about 50 right and left and the strings are bunched toward the middle. I'm wondering if I should pan the guitars closer to the middle and the strings a bit more to the sides?

In any case, all comments appreciated!

16 hours is unusually long to get a reply, i instinctively went to this one cause it had a higher number :(.
I like it, but the guitars are nice and wide and the pad is small and wimpy in the middle, it sounds a bit odd.
Also the bell thing is a tad cliche

Hey Guitarboi! Thanks for the comments! There IS a reason for the bells. The whole project has a nautical theme and 8 bells has some meaning in the nautical world.

Are the guitars TOO wide? Do you think the strings should be more powerful or louder?

Thanks again!

Tough call 7String..... Right now there's good separation betwen guitars and strings. If you were to pan the guitars closer, I'm not sure if everything would be as clear. I'm going to say bring the strings up a tab and leave the guitars where they are....

Thanks Idol! I've listened to it a million times and I'm inclined to agree with the panning of the guitars. I'll try bringing up the strings a bit and maybe post a remix later this evening.

Thanks again!

I'll give it a listen when I get home.....I just can't tell a thing about it at work today.:o

Overall, I think the mix is too narrow, period. It's hard to get any real breadth in a mix with as few elements at play as this one. Simple hard panning isn't always the answer to giving a soundfield width. I'd start by giving the mix some room to grow into with a little verb on the strings, if nothing else.
Just for grins, I downloaded this into SoundForge and really blew the soundfield up. As it got wider, the strings gained definition and were much more present and seated in the mix much smoother. Shoot me a PM if you want me to send you the expanded mix for your reference.

Nice tune as well.

Hey TeyshaBlue, Thanks for the comments! There is some verb on the strings, but not a lot, and I've panned them hard left and right. I'd love to hear what you did and in the meantime I'm going to do some playing with the verb and see what I come up with.

Thanks again!

Hey there, stranger! Nice to see you back on the boards! Unfortunately, I can't listen to this right now.... I am on a gov't pc with no speakers. But I will be on my laptop later, so I'll listen then. Being away from home really sucks... :(

Hey Rokket! Well, I got laid off from one of my jobs :( so I have some time to actually work on some of these ideas I've had. Look forward to hearing from you!

I agree with ido. Leave the guitars but bring up the strings. You might try to add some arpeggio strings when the bells are playing too. Although not staccato. To me it seems to be a little monotonous during the bells. Just needs a little something there.

No practical input...just wanted to say that I like the song.

I couldn't get to shore to use my pc, but I thought I'd check and see if you answered me... cool...

Gotta get off this ship so I can do some more normal things (normal for me anyhow  )

Hey, cmhansen! Thanks for the comments! I'm going to work on it Sunday, because I'll be extremely busy until then. There actually is a slow arpeggio once the bells kick in but I'll make things a bit louder and post a remix Sunday afternoon or evening.

Thanks again!

Military Retirement is a myth....

Actually, I am a merchant marine now. Have been for the last couple years. I keep looking for that big break so I don't have to do this and be away from my family so much.

I have a son now who is almost 7 months old that I've only seen for about 3 weeks of his life. He's already teething and I don't even know him...:(

But enough bitching! I'm just glad that you are back on the boards!:)
