This subforum gets too little use…

So I resolved to write at least some lyric every single day this year. Therapy + skill building, ya know? Might be very random, might end up writing some actual songs — we'll see! I'm hoping to post an update every so often. Open to comments & suggestions, but I may ignore some of that, 'cause sometimes certain things are not meant to be changed…

Anyway… here goes for a first one, completed just now:

So here's a second installment. I wrote the last two verses first and while they may be a bit quirky I kinda like the imagery ?

Sun’s goin’ down, time to pop a can
Or two — wear off the heat with a lil’ bit of buzz
Long day on the water, let’s lay back on the sand
Vibin’ to the music of an 80s band

Driftwood pile with a splash of gasoline
Flames lickin’ timber, leapin’ up to the sky
Feelin’ the flicker don’t compare to your eyes
Fingers of fire like your hand in mine


Evening chill, throw a log on the fire
Cold beer’s forgotten, now we’re sipping hot cider
Tasting the warmth don’t compare to your smile
Inching closer and closer ‘till it’s time to retire…


Wake up in a second-floor apartment
Shadows on the wall grey city lights of dawn
Shadows I thought were firelight on the canvas
tent — Impressions fading, going, gone…

Fixing breakfast, campfire crackle in my ears
Pour the skim milk, it turns to Rice Crispies sound
Try to remember, rub the sleep from my eyes
Watch two cornflakes spin around and around and around and around… [delay to end]

i will give you warm water and let you be free
all i ask is some company
and listen to my symphony

i want a human to be my agreeable companion
to be rough if anything is tough
like if my beat don't smash the fly
then tell me why in plain open speech

if anything doth rub you wrong
then point it out in my naïve song
get up and dance and shout and spit
you know i do not give a shit

Just be yourself and read your book
my music will be like a bubbling brook
it will flow like silk down a downy hill
to land like a happy pill

So she appeared and was busy
She had her shopping in her car
I helped bring it all into the house

I said my idea.
She said no
she said I was a drunk
I said please come down

no go, so... here I sit typing alone

it is times like these when the world is a huger.
The pressure is perfect
the air is sweet
the sound is so friendly

my furrowed brow is a plane of glass
my inner cousin is asleep
if only i would sleep like him
like a rock in deep water
like a silent volcano
hot but not pushy
firm with a vector
an easy victor

In January these moments are rare
My mind is open and bare
My body is loose
Like a busy caboose

So I take for granted
And roll on my side
and pickup the remote
go to the land of nod
