Yep, I said the same thing when I sold the;
'62 Guild X 175 Manhatten
'65 Rick 12 string
'66 Fender 12 string
'29 Dobro
'72 Telecaster
'94 Gibson Chet Atkins nylon
'83 Martin M-38

I could go on but I've got to go hurl.
 
For reasons that I won't go into here, selling the bike would be a HUGE pain in the butt.

I've sold so many guits that I've owned I cant remember half of them...I look at it this way..Your only holding on to them temp.
When someone bought that Firebird new they had it ..someone next maybe you.. and so on and so on..Look at it this way you got to use it for the time you had it..Now its someone elses turn..Hey and you made some cash in the deal!:)

I just got some great news about my guitar. I sent an e-mail to Gibson and this is what I got back:

Ray,
That looks like it may be a custom ordered Firebird III. The inlay on a regular run model would have been dot. The regular run model would also have had a simple spring vibrato with a flat arm. The other specs fit the model, such as the wrap around bridge with raised integral saddles, 2 pickups and 3 way switch. Hope this helps, thank you for the inquiry.

I was also told that if this inlay is factory (and it seems to be) the guitar should sell for about $10,000.00! This info came from an ebay shopper.

I'm not feeling bad anymore.
 
man that is a beautiful neck inlay...are you sure you want to sell that axe man?

i will say this though///if you were planning on getting 3 or 4 grand out of it and now you end up getting 10 grand out of it....you can catch up on your bills AND get you a brand new firebird

that should make you feel better

that is sure one hell-of-a-beat-the-fuck-up-guitar...

I'd be happy if I got three grand for it too... but I bet it sounds pretty good though... but man... how many people have you killed and defended yourself with that axe?

love the inlay...

for 10 grand I suppose you could have your own custom inlay done on whatever...

it IS on Ebay...so hopefully some smuck will cough up 15 grand!!

Do you know who the original owner was? He knew what the hell he wanted.

Like I said earlier the inlay was likely done by the banjo guy in the custom shop, making an already rare instrument that much more rare. And you're going to sell it? Show me an investment that will appreciate more in the next 5 to 10 years.

I don't know anything about who the original owner was, I bought this guitar at a guitar show in 89. I only paid $250.00 for it! Nobody wanted Firebirds back then.

It's not THAT bad. The thing is almost 40 years old after all. It's in pretty much the same shape it was in when I got it.

I can understand your motivation for selling the guitar.
I'm sure if anyone here is willing to dump a sack-o-cash in your lap you would be happy to keep it.

Since you have several others, I must say I admire your attitude in the whole matter.....
The truth is its a fine instrument, but if you sell it you definately will still be able to play and create.

These are the best words I can come up with!
I hope business picks up and everything works out for you.

Reality is you don't know me from any other jamoke that pops in here, but you seem like a decent guy and I've been where you are before.

sorry,six fo!I feel your pain because I once pawned a 64 fender mustang(I know,not as tight as the firebird)to pay my room mates half of the rent with the guarantee that he would pay me
back.Well, he never did and I lost her.Not the end of the world!
 
if i had a rare firebird like that it would have to be the very last resort for me to sell it. you would probably not be able to replace it
 
you don't really want to sell...you may be foolin the ol'lady, but...
the week before xmas can be a hard time to sell certain things...
of course, you already know our economy is fucked up...I'm broke too...if you can hold out a couple of months (tax return time) you can probably sell, but then again, if you were in a position to "hold out" you wouldn't be needing the $ to be begin with...now I gotta puke...truth is, that guitar is worth as much as someone will pay for it, and there are buyers out there, but "timing" is critical...have you tried pawning it for $3250.?
I've never been to NY city, but I can picture your guitar "in the window" with a $6k price tag...oh, I forgot--you don't really want to sell it...don't let the ol'lady see this post...your attitude is great though--having other instruments has got to help.
