just wanna know whats the best way to position the SM57 when recording guitar from an amp... I just baught a SM57 today, played around with it a little, and just wanted to know how other people position theres...
 
I don't like the SM57 on most amps but others will disagree. I would start by pointing it center about 2" from the cone and work my way back and see if it sounds better...then start working it towards the outer edges while monitoring with headphones etc.

You're pretty much going to have to go by ear of course, but I'd start close with that mic...literally too many possibilities though!

yeah, ive been able to get a distortion sound but the clean is horrible anything strummed out on clean sounds like it has like a dirty feel to it almost like its got alot gain on it
