huh???
SM-57, Audix i5, GLS ES-57, & CAD KBM412 mic comparisons

For what it's worth, here's a comparison of these dynamic mics on electric guitar.

Shure SM-57
Audix i5
GLS ES-57
KBM-412 (I know it's a kick mic, but what the heck) :)

Signal Chain...

Fender Strat -> Crate Flex Wave 65W 1x12 -> microphone -> Presonus Firepod -> Cubase 4 Essential

Recorded at 44.1/16bit. No compression, EQ, etc. All tracks are completely raw. All of the mics were about 1/4" away from the front cloth and all 4 mics were centered in between outside & inside edge of the speaker.

I'm not the best guitar player so forgive my playing. This is also my first time to do a mic comparison, so any advice or feedback would be appreciated.

I hope you enjoy. :D

Yeah. I'm impressed by the GLS myself and considering that it's half the cost of the Shure & Audix...and they're built just as well.

I never thought I would replace my shure 57 when it comes to a snare mic, or a dynamic guitar cab mic.

However, the Audix i5 is the same price, and a significantly better sound mic in its higher frequency capture.

Yeah. I think so too.

I was going to test them all on snare also, but ran out of time. I'll get that a little later.
